Connecticut's Governor, Ned Lamont, backing an EPR for packaging bill

Connecticut's governor, Ned Lamont, announced he's backing an EPR for packaging bill in the state, joining New York, Washington, New Jersey and other states working to advance some type of Packaging EPR legislation this year. Read about Connecticut's plan below..

Connecticut closed their Hartford based, Waste to Energy incineration plant in July 2022.

According to reports CT currently exports 700,000 tons of waste, due to zero landfill space, out of state and as far away as Ohio.

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation is a top priority for a state with very little options left. Gov Hochul of NY made a similar announcement 2 weeks ago. See Governor Hochul’s announcement below..

I was discussing EPR legislation with a few packaging industry colleagues last week. Several of them said, "the packaging industry needs to lean in, get off their heels and take the lead in helping our customers prepare for this pending legislation". 

I couldn't agree more..
