PETE Clamshells need “to hit for the CYCLE”

I love blueberries, strawberries and many other products packaged in #1 PETE clamshells.

In most of the U.S. #1 PETE clamshells are not recycled.

They're thrown into a landfill because they cannot be processed along with PET beverage bottles. What a waste of a valuable resource!

CYCLE is in the word RECYCLE. CYCLE means a complete, continuous round or a #circulareconomy . If it's not recycled but discarded, the CYCLE is broken.

Some PETE clamshells DO contain post consumer PETE resin to provide a partial cycle which helps, but more is needed. We need a full continuous CYCLE.

Unless we reCYCLE the post consumer clamshells into new plastic packaging, the CYCLE will fall short, and a valuable and needed resource will end up in the landfill.

Just another #1 PET reason for EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) legislation.

EPR that will provide the additional funding to the recycling infrastructure and give clamshells their full CYCLE.
